Terms & Conditions

Intro

These Terms of Trade apply to your use of Kev, an AI assistant designed to help people working in or around the New Zealand building and trades industry think through on-site questions and scenarios.
By accessing or using Kev, you agree to these terms.

1. Who Kev is for.
Kev is intended for use by people involved in building and trade-related work, including (but not limited to) licensed tradespeople, apprentices, builders, designers, inspectors, and property owners.
Kev is not a substitute for holding the appropriate licence, certification, or professional authority required to carry out regulated work.

By using Kev, you confirm that:

  • You are using Kev as decision support and guidance only, and

  • You understand that regulated work must still be carried out or approved by the appropriately licensed or authorised person.

2. What Kev does (and doesn’t do)
Kev:

  • Helps explain concepts and scenarios in plain English

  • Flags common installation issues and inspection risks

  • Helps users think through options and trade-offs

  • Saves time on site by surfacing relevant guidance

Kev does not:

  • Replace plans, specifications, or manufacturer instructions

  • Provide certified design, engineering, or compliance sign-off

  • Replace inspections, council requirements, or professional judgement

  • Act as an authority on what the standards “say”

You remain responsible for:

  • Checking plans, specifications, and site conditions

  • Compliance with the Building Code, standards, and consent conditions

  • Ensuring work is carried out or approved by appropriately licensed persons

Kev is a tool — you remain responsible for the final decision and work carried out.

3. Accuracy and limitations
Kev uses AI to generate responses based on general knowledge, trade practice, and guidance.
While Kev is designed for real-world use, responses may be incomplete, out of date, or not suitable for your specific site or situation.
By using Kev, you agree that:

  • Kev is used as guidance only

  • You will apply your own judgement and confirm requirements against official documents where required

  • You remain fully responsible for any work carried out

Kev is provided “as is”, without warranties or guarantees of accuracy, completeness, or suitability.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Kev accepts no liability for decisions made, actions taken, or outcomes arising from reliance on its responses.

4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:

  • Rely on Kev as your sole source of compliance or regulatory advice

  • Use Kev to bypass licensing, consent, or inspection requirements

  • Use Kev for unlawful, unsafe, or misleading purposes

  • Misrepresent Kev’s responses as certified or authoritative advice

Misuse may result in suspension or termination of access.

5. Accounts, access, and subscriptions
Access to Kev is provided by subscription. Subscriptions are managed via Stripe.
Trial periods, pricing, and billing terms are shown at signup.
You can cancel your subscription using the link provided in your Stripe billing emails.
Kev may suspend or terminate access if:

  • Payment fails

  • The service is misused or abused

6. Data and conversations
Conversations may be logged and reviewed to improve Kev.
Data is handled in accordance with the Kev Privacy Policy.
Do not enter confidential client information or sensitive personal data.

7. Intellectual property
Kev, including its responses, branding, and underlying systems, remains the property of Kev.
You may use responses for your own work, but you may not:

  • Resell Kev

  • Reproduce or distribute Kev’s content as a standalone product

  • Reverse engineer, scrape, or misuse the service

8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by New Zealand law:
Kev is not liable for loss, damage, or claims arising from use of the service, including direct, indirect, or consequential loss.
You use Kev at your own risk.

9. Changes to these Terms
Kev may update these Terms from time to time.
The current version will always be available on the Kev website.
Continued use of Kev means you accept the updated terms.
